CLAN DONNACHAIDH SOCIETY
NORTHEAST BRANCH
It is said you are born into a Highland Clan by virtue
of your name or your ancestry. You join a Clan Society to support your
Clan and
to
join
with others who share your common bond of kinship; to help preserve this
rich heritage.
Although the Clan is ancient, the Clan Donnachaidh Society (the name
is pronounced "Donna-key" is relatively modern. Its aims are
benevolent, cultural and social. Founded in 1893, the Society flourished
for many years
and was revived in 1948. The headquarters is now located in Pitlochry,
Pershire, Scotland.
The Society maintains and renews the family bond and
traditions uniting a Clan (the Gaelic word for "children"),
now scattered throughout the world. Membership is open to those named
Robertson, Duncan,
Reid
or any of the Septs or family names of the Clan (see the Home page).
Members
gather at the Museum in June or July each year for business meetings
and social gatherings to attend a Clan service at Struan Church.
The Clan Donnachaidh, Northeast Branch, is one of nearly
a dozen regional Clan Societies throughout the United States and Canada.
Our Society
encourages
membership from the six New England states plus New York. Activities
include participation at regional highland games and festivities with
a Clan tent,
and social activities such as Robert Burns nights. The Branch also holds
a dinner party usually held in late March, April or early May, and its
annual business is held at that event.
